COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
Netflix
Disney+

In our competitive research and analysis, we noticed that many on-demand platforms feature large full-bleed heros. We also observed the bold full-width CTA button treatment to watch movies. We understood the theme here of expanding outwards and being adventurous with striking sizes. We played with varying dimensions of imagery, as well as placements for the interactive icons. We also strategized the hierarchy of key metadata and researched accessible design treatments.

Similar & Extras

We redesigned the "Movies" page to feature an enhanced 1:1 aspect ratio for the hero, as well as other interactive innovations.
We researched and ideated different user flows, and designed an automated progress bar experience to resume movies.
We aligned the "Similar" and "Extras" tabs section with the redesigned "Movies" page and transformed visual elements.
THE TRANSFORMATION

Our ideations explored integrating a variety of new components, such as "Cast & Crew" information, trailers and special features. We experimented with various layouts and configurations. We tested a series of concepts with users and synthesized our research. We developed an understanding for what draws users and creates ease of navigation. The integration of a "Cast & Crew" component was shelved for future improvements. The "Watch Trailer" section idea reused the component for watching TV show episodes. We then narrowed down and refined options based on our UXR findings.
BVOD CHANNELS
FEATURES

TVNZ offers several channels for streaming content on demand. We aligned these movie experiences with the new design. We integrated each channel logo into the new design and explored different layout ideas. We placed each channel logo at the central top of the movie headline with an elongated gradient treatment to ensure optimal accessibility.
